Many of the people behind the Carlo Acutis Association never imagined they’d be involved in youth ministry. They simply saw a need and answered God’s call.

What inspired you to become involved with the Carlo Acutis Association?

“My daughter is now 21, but throughout her school years there was very little Catholic youth provision available. I watched so many of her friends drift away from their faith, and it made me realise just how important those teenage years are.

I truly believe that young people are the future of our Church. If we want our faith to flourish for generations to come, we have to invest in them now, helping them build friendships, ask difficult questions and develop a personal relationship with Christ.”

What’s been your favourite moment so far?

“It’s impossible to choose just one.

One was Arin’s impromptu talk about choosing faith over fear. It was heartfelt, courageous and incredibly powerful. Hearing a young person speak so openly about his faith has a far greater impact on his peers than listening to us adults.

The other was watching Thomas’ journey. He arrived knowing nobody, quietly found his place within the group, chose St Carlo as his Confirmation saint, and then, completely on his own initiative, built a website to share Carlo’s story with others. Watching faith come alive like that reminds me exactly why youth ministry matters.”

What would you say to a young person thinking about coming along for the first time?

“Just come once.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to know anyone. You just need to be willing to give it a try.
