Meet Maeve, one of our Founder Leaders and President of the Carlo Acutis Association Ireland.

What inspired you to become involved with the Carlo Acutis Association?

“I’ve seen first hand the impact our youth group has had on my own four daughters, who all attended the St Carlo Acutis Youth Group at Our Lady of the Wayside. My three eldest daughters have since become youth helpers, volunteering every week with both the Junior and Senior groups.

For the past 18 months I’ve had the privilege of serving as Chair of the Junior Youth Group. Seeing 25 to 30 young people arrive each week with such joy and excitement has been incredibly special. That’s what inspired me to help bring this model to other parishes, so even more young people can experience the same.”

What’s been your favourite moment so far?

“My favourite moment was when my own 14 year old daughter told me that helping at youth group was the highlight of her week.

As I’m moving to Ireland, I thought my involvement with CAA would be coming to an end. Instead, Ray asked me to become President of CAA Ireland. It was completely unexpected, and I’m honoured to continue this mission in a new country. Watch this space!”

What would you say to a young person thinking about coming along for the first time?

“Come along and give it a try. Play and pray with us, bring a friend or make new ones here. We’re a fun, friendly and welcoming group. Come and see for yourself!”
